EGBA welcomes plans for overhaul of Finland’s online gambling monopoly

The Finnish government’s plans to modernise its online gambling regulation by establishing a licensing system for online gambling will bring it into line with all other EU member states. Brussels, Today – The Ministry of the Interior in Finland has announced a legislative project to reform the country's gambling monopoly system by introducing a license system for online gambling, including casino games and betting activities. EGBA, representing Europe's leading online gambling companies, welcomes this announcement as a crucial milestone in addressing the shortcomings of Finland's outdated monopoly framework for online gambling. The legislative project aims to draft necessary proposals for the reformation of the gambling system. EGBA members sent 45.5 million messages to their customers last year to promote safer gambling, with nearly half of these being personalised, according to EGBA’s latest sustainability report. BRUSSELS, TODAY – Members of the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) stepped up their efforts to promote safer gambling last year, sending 45.5 million safer gambling messages to their customers, a 20% yearly increase, according to the organisation’s third annual sustainability report published today. Nearly half, or 48%, of these communications were personalised, meaning that they were sent to individual customers in direct response to their actual playing behaviour, up from 40% the previous year, indicating an increasingly personalised approach by EGBA members to safer gambling promotion. APAJO, the Portuguese online gambling association, has signed up to a European Commission initiative aimed at reducing advertising on copyright-infringing websites.
